Garden Club Makes Us Beautiful

Three members of the DP Garden Club recently planted flowers in front of the Pantry. Shown above are:  (l to r)  Barbara Maier, Eileen VanDiggelen and Betsy Shelvan.

We are grateful to the Garden Club for our flowers and to Marty's Landscaping for keeping our grounds looking beautiful.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

With all the rain we've been having, your garden should be growing nicely. If you have an excess of fast-growing zucchini or any other garden treats, would you consider sharing with us?  Most of our clients don't have the luxury of a backyard garden but they really appreciate any fresh produce that we can give them. We are expanding our list of foods we distribute to our clients to include fresh fruits and vegetables in our quest to encourage healthier eating. Donations from local gardeners would help us in our mission to promote healthier families.  Thanks you for sharing with us.

Accurate Auto Promotion Benefits Pantry

Last month, at a Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours gathering, Mike Charewicz of Accurate Auto on Oakton St., announced a promotion featuring a free oil change for anyone who donated $25.00 or more to the Pantry.  This event raised over $700 including a generous personal donation from Mike and his wife Doris. Thank you Accurate Auto! Scott Seifert, CofC President, with Mike Charewicz.

Teach the children well. . . .

And that is what District 62 is striving to do when they involve the students in community service at an early age.

The photo shown above is a group of students from North School. They had collected money for the Pantry and then took a trip to Shop & Save to purchase food, laundry detergent, etc. to donate to the Pantry.

The photo below shows the Student Council from South School who had held a food drive at their school.  They piled in a bus and brought the donated food to the Pantry and received a tour of our facility. It is important for the students to see where the food is going and how it is being distributed.

We also want to thank Orchard Place School for their successful food drive.

Thank you for the NALC Food Drive

Thank you to all who participated in the NALC (Letter Carriers') Food Drive held in May. This drive resulted in over 14,000 pounds of food being donated to the Pantry.  The many Post Office and Pantry volunteers picked up the food, brought it to the Post Office where it was weighed, and then to  the Pantry.  This annual food drive provides a huge boost to the Pantry at this time of the year. We are most grateful!

A special thank you goes out to Giuseppe's for donating a pizza lunch to volunteers who were working at the Pantry that day.
