City Council Meeting: 10/18/10

The Fall 2010 Ward R3PORT has been posted for download on 3rdWard.org.  Thanks to Denise Smith-Rodd, Lisa Norris, and Brian Wolf for their hard work.

Don Smith (retired 7th Ward Alderman) presented on the status of the Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program.  As part of a cost cutting measure, the Senior Center took control of the program during the 2010 budget cycle.  In the past year, 23-32 people have been receiving meals through the program at any given time.  Applicants must be at least 60 years old and pass a screening to be eligible.  Call 847-768-5944 if you need more information or know someone who might benefit from this service.

The Library presented their budget to the City Council this evening.  With over $600k in cuts, Library Board and Staff brought a plan for a 0% tax increase to mirror the City's proposed increase.  Know that recent news reports have it wrong.  The City Council and Library Board do not want to close the institution in December.  We will work together to cut costs, maintain services, and keep the books open.  More to report after the November 1 council meeting.
