Public Notice: 515 E Thacker

A number of homes surrounding Prairie Lakes received a notice from the City earlier this week (here is a copy) announcing that the Des Plaines Park District had applied for a zoning change from R1 Residential to I-1 Institutional for their Prairie Lakes facility located at 515 E Thacker.  The Park District is looking for a zoning change so that they can install a community message board like the one operated by the City, located at the corner of River Rd. & Miner Street.  Prairie Lakes Community Center will not see any other changes and it is not being sold.  This public notice included none of these important facts and was confusing to many residents.  A letter highlighting the whole story is being sent to those residents who received the confusing public notice.  I will be working with our Economic and Community Development organization to improve the way we communicate proposed zoning changes.

If you are interested in learning more about the Park District's proposal, consider attending the public meeting on Monday, May 10th at 7:00pm in room 102 of City Hall.
